As I was driving back from the lovely Urban Deer retreat last weekend, I found myself thanking my lucky stars for having the means and ability to enjoy the great outdoors as much as I can. I often wonder whether are any companies or nonprofits in the Bay Area focus on making outdoor adventures more accessible to under-privileged youth. Sure enough, I found one!
Earn the Day, a tiny nonprofit that seems to be just starting up in the city, recently unveiled a video that documents how difficult it can be to grow up in San Francisco's Mission district and how a day-long outdoor adventure — like learning to surf — can completely transform a child's outlook.
Seems like a wonderful and much needed program. We'll let you know if we see any opportunities to get involved!
